The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit yuj, meaning to yoke or bind, and is often translated as “union.”

When the body, mind and soul are in harmony, only then can we achieve contentment in life.

At a physical level, yoga helps to relieve physical ailments.  The body and mind are encouraged to reach beyond their usual limits and act in unison.
As we become increasingly aware of our bodies and absorbed in the postures, or asanas, the body is strengthened and the mind becomes calm.

  • Yoga is a philosophy, a science and an art.
  • It is also a method of therapy.
  • The philosophy was developed in India over 5000 years ago and systematized by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra.

In today’s world, the speed of technology and our sedentary lifestyle may lead to stress related illness.  Stress may translate into insomnia, digestive disorders, backache and headaches.

Yoga is one method for relieving these common conditions without resorting to drugs.

It is not intended to replace good medical care.  However, it enhances our physical, mental and psychological awareness allowing us to improve in these areas.
